Medical Centre / Liz’s Place

In 2010 Lizzie (Liz)  Beach-MacGeagh, daughter and sister of two of our trustees, was killed by a hit and run driver in London.  Lizzie loved Uganda and spent two happy visits at the school.

So many of her friends and family knew how much she loved the girls at St. Michael’s. Building a 4 bed Medical Centre in the grounds of the school in Lizzie’s memory has been life changing for the school and from such an unbearable tragedy. It is Lizzie’s lasting legacy - caring for the girls and saving many lives.

We fund a broad spectrum of medical supplies and medicines for the medical centre. We also fund the salary of one full time nurse (see our page on Nursing Staff for more details). The presence of the medical centre and nurse on site is vital for the wellbeing of the staff and students of St Michael’s. It is critical for the fast detection and treatment of malaria as well as containing the spread of other common illnesses. Please see our page on Malaria Prevention for more details.
