Toilet Blocks

Toilet blocks, otherwise known as pit latrines, provide a low-cost, low-tech solution for waste management in rural Uganda. They are critical for preventing the spread of disease and promoting good hygiene practices. On site pit latrines in the schools also ensure that staff and students can go to the toilet safely without risk of being intruded upon.

It is vital that the pit latrines are constructed with proper engineering as there is the risk for collapse or contamination of nearby water sources. Proper engineering also allows for the latrines to be emptied, the alternative being the pits fill up and then can no longer be used.

Over the years we have funded the construction of one large block of pit latrines at St Michael’s and two large blocks at Bishop Willigers.

Your donations can help us fund:

The construction of more pit latrines. A block with 5 stalls which can be emptied costs approximately £2,500.
